ironyuse to (each meaning of irony)
After reading a metro news story: "Palin meets a gun owner she doesn't like," I thought what a wonderful lesson this would make to teach students about irony, especially to help them understand irony as a literary device.
I just watched the Frank McCourt video. It was very moving. I especially enjoyed it when he talked about the imagination-- to a degree, my TIP topic. He said, that he and others got out of the slums because they dreamed they were going to get out; they had imaginations. Imagination is wonderful, but we seem to have less time for it today. Perhaps, there's less to imagine. What will we imagine about in 40 years? The West Village scenes in the 50s evoked nostolic feelings, made me want to take a walk there, but then I thought of the crowded streets and all the homework I have to complete and came to my senses real fast. Anyway, it's a great video. Thanks to Nancy.
